Improve consent without coercive banner design

DecidePrivacy is a consent-banner overlay that gives users a real, preference-based reason to choose personalised ads. After the user clicks, the banner itself can display a live ad unit inside the consent layer, before it closes.

No ad calls, identifiers, or storage before the user acts. Your existing CMP remains the system of record.

How it works

DecidePrivacy turns the first-layer cookie banner into an outcome-shown consent layer:

  • Before a choice: the banner is inert (no personalized advertising, no ad-tech activity triggered).
  • If the user rejects: the banner can render a real non-personalized (NP) creative.
  • If the user accepts: the banner can render a real personalized (P) creative.

This behavior can apply to on-site and off-site embodiments.

The goal is to replace "guesswork" with clarity—so users understand the practical effect of their decision.

DecidePrivacy is built around a simple idea: make the consequences of consent clearer, without using dark patterns.

What we are testing

The hypothesis is that making the difference visible can improve understanding and consent rates. It has not yet been validated in a partner pilot.

We are looking for a CMP or publisher design partner to define and evaluate a bounded test.

Controlled test

A test would agree the eligible page or traffic segment, existing CMP and privacy ownership, baseline, measures, stop conditions, and rollback before implementation.

Consent lift is a measure, not a promised result.

Who a controlled test needs

  • A bounded experience — One eligible page, journey, or traffic segment that can be compared against an agreed baseline.
  • An evidence and rollback plan — Measures, stop conditions, data boundaries, and rollback agreed before implementation.

Regulatory context

We received non-binding Innovation Advice from the UK ICO in February 2026 (case ref. 00000118). The ICO confirmed that showing users the result of their choice could be permissible provided no storage or access occurs before consent, the presentation is not framed as reward or penalty, and the content shown is explanatory rather than persuasive. Our design is built around those conditions. The advice is non-binding and does not constitute regulatory approval.
